Multiple Stock Locations (Sage 50 and Sage 200)

Sage 50

The standard Sage 50 Accounts program does not allow multiple stock locations, having just a single Location field on a stock record. However, Sage 50 Manufacturing does offer multiple locations by making extended use of the Product Information file mentioned above.

To use the facility it is necessary to receive incoming goods not within Purchase Order Processing but using instead the Traceability module in Manufacturing. A special screen is provided for this purpose which operates in the same way as the equivalent screen in Purchase Order Processing but offers additional facilities including the ability to print labels, enter Supplier’s batch and/or C of C number and shelf life expiry dates as well as providing a field for entering the location where the goods are to be stored.

The entry made in the Location field may optionally be restricted to a pre-defined list to provide extra control. On completion of this screen, the Sage 50 Stock Control is updated as normal, but the location details are stored against the delivery in the Manufacturing program. As with S200, the Picking List will show the location of allocated stock and amendments may be made if necessary.

On completion of a Works Order, the program will default to the ‘Preferred Location’ but this may be overwritten if necessary.

Sage 200

The Sage 200 Manufacturing product takes advantage of the existing Multiple Warehouses functionality present within Sage 200 Commercials. It is a 2-tier system allowing multiple bin locations within multiple warehouses. Appropriate settings are made on the Manufacturing Tab in the Stock Control module. (NB Out of the box Sage 200 refers to locations as Warehouses, but the user can substitute a different word if required – e.g. Factory)

Selections here determine where the Finished Product will be stored by default on completion of a Works Order, and where MRP will search for raw materials when calculating requirements. This MRP replenishment option includes the Warehouse Hierarchy, a system to prevent raw materials/components in selected warehouses being used as replenishments where for example, it would be uneconomic to transport them to the manufacturing location. Incoming stock is dealt with in Purchase Order Processing, part of the Commercials package. The Warehouse and Bin Location (if used) of allocated stock will appear on the printed Picking List although amendments may be made if the allocated stock is not actually used.

On completion of production the finished items will be placed into the default location shown on the Works Order unless overwritten by the user.
