Frequently Asked Questions

I already pay for support - why do I need SMN as well?

SMN members are people like you who use the same software to help run their manufacturing business, so when you join you can communicate and share ideas, knowledge and experience. Everyone is looking for efficiency savings and that should include the way you use your computer system.  Your support service is there when things go wrong, or when you need immediate help on a particular problem. The concept - and the reality - of SMN, is that you can save money by getting smarter in using your computer. Although it is an independent organisation, SMN is fully supported by Sage (U.K.) Ltd.

So it's just another on-line discussion forum?

One of the objectives of SMN is "To ...promote the use of best practice techniques and processes" - that could hardly be achieved with just a bulletin board! It means enabling all users to get the maximum value from their investment in software by using it in the most efficient way possible - including knowlegebase articles, worked examples, wish and bug notifications. Yes, the discussion forum plays an important part - and from December 2010 it's free! - but there's much, much more besides!

Aren't words like 'best practice' and 'maximum value' just marketing jargon?

Certainly not. SMN Members can expect to gain real, tangible benefits from their membership, including access to a wealth of practical, jargon-free relevant information with no techno-speak. And if you ever feel you're not getting what you want from your membership you cancel it - simple as that!

I don't have time to read through long boring articles looking for something that might be useful!

That's why the SMN Knowledgebase is split into 3 categories - and you can use the Search tool to find references to any topic:

  • 'Quick Tips' - stuff you can read and use within 5 minutes
  • 'How To...' - longer, 1-off articles covering one specific topic
  • 'In-depth' - more detailed series of articles split into self contained parts which you can read when it suits you.

And if you can't find what you need you simply 'Request an Article' and we'll produce it and publish it for you.

Sounds good - but what does it cost?

It certainly won't break the bank. And there's no long-term commitment. You can subscribe for a minimum 3-month period at £6.00 per month, and if you choose a 12-month subscription the monthly cost falls to just £5.00 (plus VAT)

And finally... How do I join?

It's easy - just click here to go to the Registration page, fill in your details and as soon as your subscription is received we'll issue you with your Login(s) and Password(s). You can also register for the free Forum using this form.
